What if I’m new to a sport and have never tried it before?
CliffHanger Academy’s In the Wild experiences are fully customized to meet ALL our clients exactly where they are at, right now. Why Experiential Learning?
- Accelerates Learning
Repetitive Learning or learning by rote has long been replaced by ‘Learning by Doing.’ Experiential Learning methodology uses critical thinking, problem-solving and decision making to deliver a training module. This has become an established method to accelerate learning.
- Provides a Safe Learning Environment
Simulations use real-life scenarios that depict several challenges, which a participant will eventually face after the course completion. It is only natural that mistakes happen during the course of learning, and using simulations is like taking kids to a playground, and getting them to have fun, try new things and learn, in a safe controlled environment.
- Bridges the Gap Between Theory and Practice
By moving beyond theory to the realm of “learning by doing,’ the trainee gets a first-hand experience of practicing what has been taught. This plays a crucial role in retaining concepts and ideas.
- Produces Demonstrable Mindset Changes
There are very few learning methods that can have a dramatic impact on the participant’s mindset. Experiential Learning is one of them. Management guru Henry Mintzberg pointed out long ago that, “Leadership, like swimming, cannot be learned by reading about it”.
- Increases Engagement Levels
The high focus on collaboration and learning from each other benefits the participant as it increases engagement. On the other hand, since the participant is immediately involved in the problem-solving activity or event, the level of ownership of the outcome is high.
Is an In the Wild experience safe?
Each experience is built around a sport that takes you outside your comfort zone, so there is inherent risk involved in all In the Wild experiences. However, our coaches have a wealth of experience, training, and certifications, to help ensure your safety is a priority.
All CliffHanger Academy’s In the Wild experiences are lead by seasoned coaches, ranging from 7 to 25 years experience in the sport. For snowboarding, we have trained under the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI). For rock climbing, we have trained under the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA). For surfing, we have trained with some of the best coaches in Australia. For Muay Thai, we have trained and been blessed by American Muay Thai legend Wayne Gregory, who was the first American to win at the famous Lumpinee Stadium in Thailand as well as the first fighter to be certified to teach under the world-renowned Fairtex fight camp in the United States.
Additionally, our coaches are CPR and AED certified as well as Wilderness First Aid certified and hold personal training certifications from the American Council on Exercise (ACE).
Where does CliffHanger Academy In the Wild experience take place?
Surfing In the Wild experiences are either hosted on the south shore of New Jersey or Rockaway Beach in Queens (NYC’s home Beach) or Long Beach NY (Long Island).
Snowboarding In the Wild experiences are hosted on various mountains in upstate New York or the Poconos.
Rock climbing In the Wild experiences are hosted both indoors and outdoors, depending on weather and season. When the weather is nice (spring, summer, and fall), we take clients climbing in upstate New York in the world-renowned Shawanagunks mountain range.
Muay Thai In the Wild experiences are hosted both indoors and outdoors, depending on weather and season. When the weather is nice (spring, summer, and fall) Muay Thai In the Wild is hosted in iconic Central Park.
In the winter time, we train at a local CrossFit gym in Long Island City, Queens.
All these various locations lead to the experiences being “In the Wild!”
Experiences are completed one at a time, with the student picking whichever sport they would like to try. Some students choose to try all four experiences, whereas others tend to stick with one sport they like the most, so the choice is completely up to you. I️ recommend going with whichever sport you’ve always wanted to try first and go from there.
All In the Wild experiences are 100% customized to you, so no matter what you pick, I’m sure you’ll be stoked!
How do I sign up?
